Practice
Houston-area drug defense. Harris, Fort Bend, Montgomery, Liberty, Brazoria, and Matagorda Counties.
Drug charges range from simple misdemeanors to multi-jurisdictional federal felonies. The charge on the paper is not the whole case. Weight, packaging, statements, the stop, the warrant, and who else was in the car all matter.
Possession cases generally fall into personal use or possession with intent to distribute. That line is often the fight. Quantity alone does not always prove intent. Text messages, scales, baggies, cash, and officer opinions have to be tested, not accepted.
When both state and federal prosecutors take an interest, the first question is often which case should proceed and on what terms. Bond in trafficking cases is frequently set far too high. Reasonable bond is a right worth arguing early.
Even a misdemeanor drug case can follow you. Prosecutors are not in the habit of going easy on people who represent themselves. Call before talking to law enforcement about the facts.
